The Porto empire lamp shade features hand-marbled paper crafted through a centuries-old technique in which paints and oils are dropped onto thickened water, then raked and stretched into intricate patterns. Each sheet is individually laid onto the surface and lifted, ensuring no two shades carry the same design. The gold and white marbling produces a bold, shimmering finish with natural variation across the paper. Due to the smaller surface area required for this technique, the shade is constructed with two seams.
