3 habits that save a return
- 01
Use a steel tape
A fabric tape sags and reads long. Measure at waist height, twice, and write it down — never trust the number you are holding in your head on the way downstairs.
- 02
Rooms are never square
Measure each wall separately, especially in an older house. A room out by 4cm across its length will lose you a drop of wallpaper or foul the end of a sofa.
- 03
Measure the route in
Doorways, turns, stairs and lifts. More furniture goes back on the van for failing the hallway than for failing the room it was bought for.
