The Akari 55A Pendant Light combines sculptural form with traditional Japanese craftsmanship, featuring handcrafted shoji paper construction. Its complex shape is created by wrapping durable paper rolls around a sculpted wire frame, while the paper surface provides gentle light diffusion. The mid-century design offers soft ambient lighting with authentic materials.
Handcrafted from traditional Japanese shoji paper, this complexly formed pendant is part of the Akari collection of mid-century lighting by Isamu Noguchi. Designed in 1951, the sculptural form of this light is created by wrapping durable yet thin rolls of paper around a sculpted wire frame. The use of shoji paper allows light to gently pour through the surface, providing a soft glow to the room.
