The Butterfly Stool combines Eastern design forms with Western craftsmanship through its distinctive curved silhouette. Its molded plywood construction provides durability and flexibility, while the maple finish adds natural warmth. The sculptural form offers comfortable seating with its ergonomic contours, and the seamless construction ensures lasting stability.
Japanese designer Sori Yanagi’s work marries Western styles with Japanese tradition, and his 1954 Butterfly stool, produced by Vitra, is a case in point. The piece draws on Eastern forms, while it is made using Charles and Ray Eames’ plywood moulding technique.
