Capitol Complex Chair with Arms - Beige, Vienna Straw

The Capitol Complex chair with arms features Vienna straw stretched across wooden frames for both the seat and backrest, supported by oak wood side bars arranged in an inverted 'V' formation. Its independent piece construction combines structural oak elements with woven straw, while the inverted 'V' side bars extend upward to support the armrests. The coplanar leg design maintains the clean, unadorned lines characteristic of the original Chandigarh commission by Pierre Jeanneret.

Found in the offices of the Secretariat Building in Chandigarh's Capitol Complex, the 'Capitol Complex' chair was developed by Italian brand Cassina in tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, cousin of Le Corbusier and designer of a host of furniture throughout the complex. Defined by independent pieces that include oak wood side bars in an inverted 'V', which support the armrests, and a Viennese straw backrest and seat stretched across wooden frames, the chair manages to be both simple and powerful.
