Nupe Carved Wooden Stool - Dark Stain, Hardwood

The Nupe stool is hand-carved from a single seamless block of indigenous hardwood, its geometric legs and incised surface patterns reflecting the distinctive design language of the Nupe people of Nigeria. The dark stain brings out the depth of the wood grain, while its weathered patina, shaped by years of use, adds character to every piece. Each stool is one of a kind, with subtle variations in carving and finish. Dimensions: L66 x D50 x H47 cm.

A hand-carved Nupe stool from Nigeria, worked from a single piece of wood with intricate incised patterns. The Nupe live along the banks of the Niger River, and stools like this are traditionally used as prestige objects on market days and at important gatherings. Each is carved from a single, seamless block of indigenous hardwood — the geometric legs and incised surface patterns reflect a design language unique to the Nupe. Weathered by time and restored with care, this piece keeps its "perfect imperfections": a patina that speaks to years of communal use. A one-of-a-kind piece of functional art. Reminiscent of Senufo stools, but with patterns carved into the top. Finish: dark stain. Size: 66cm L × 50cm W × 47cm H
