Boar Limited Edition Serving Plate by Duncan Tattersall

£120
Colour:white
The Boar Limited Edition Serving Plate features Duncan Tattersall's interpretation of Pictish heritage motifs from the Tarbat Peninsula. Its design draws from an 8th Century zoological carving discovered at Scotland's only Pictish monastery, reimagined with Celtic revivalist influences. The plate combines traditional spongeware technique with hand-painted details, using sponge rollers and cut stamps for each design element. Each piece receives unique hand-painted finishing touches, ensuring no two plates are identical.

Original Product Description:

"My plate is inspired by the Pictish heritage of the Tarbat Peninsula where Anta is located, and is a new interpretation of my Boar textile print. The main motif is derived from an 8th Century zoological carving on a fragment of stone unearthed in the excavation of Scotland's only Pictish monastery at Portmahomack. I reimagined this with other elements in a manner inspired by Celtic revivalist George Bain, whose design archive is held on the Black Isle. In recognising the similarities in style and process between ceramic spongeware and my usual medium of printmaking, I chose to honour Anta's traditional technique in creating my own plate and used sponge rollers and cut stamps to apply each element of my design. The colours were chosen from Anta's existing palette and I hand-painted the finer details to give each plate a unique finish." - Duncan Tattersall
