The Standard Chair combines industrial design with ergonomic engineering through its distinctive weight distribution frame. Its angular back legs contrast with thin tubular front legs, while the powder-coated steel construction ensures durability. The molded plastic backrest and seat bolt directly onto the frame, creating a streamlined profile that supports natural posture with its curved backrest design.
A man of many talents, Jean Prouvé brought his combined skills as an architect, engineer and industrial designer to the Standard Chair.First produced in 1934, the frame gets its unique shape from a clever weight distribution design, which is based on the understanding that the back legs of a chair take most of the upper body weight of the user.Contrasting the thin tubular legs at the front of the design with the angular back, the frame is finished in a soft powder coating with a choice of contemporary shades. To complete this classic modernist chair, two plastic moulded sheets form the curved backrest and flat seat simply bolting onto the steel frame to add to the Sim's industrial feel.
