The Charapita vase combines handpainted folk-style artwork with a sculptural ceramic form, part of Shirley Villavicencio Pizango's Santiago de Borja series for Serax. Flowers and foliage in naturalistic colors adorn the body, with two fish rendered in warm, earthy tones at the base. Elaborate curved handles connect the lower section to the upper body, adding structural detail that contrasts with the painterly simplicity of the surface decoration.
Shirley Villavicencio Pizango's expressionistic paintings enliven a series of vases for Serax. Colorful vessels in imaginative forms traverse fine art and ceramics. In 'Santiago de Borja', folk-style paintings reflect aspects of life and nature in the Amazonian village where the Belgian-Peruvian artist spent much of her childhood. The handpainted pieces bring the tropical atmosphere of her work to life. The 'Charapita' vase features flowers and foliage in naturalistic colors, and two fish in warm, earthy tones at the base. The simplicity of style is offset by elaborate, curved handles that connect the bottom of the vase to the upper section. A sculptural work of art in its own right, this multicolor vase can be dressed with bright florals for spectacular displays.
