The Twist Glass Vase features a hand-blown helical structure that deepens in colour through the folds and lightens where the glass thins. Its twisted wall construction, inherited from Roman glassblowing techniques, creates a form that is structurally stronger than a straight-walled vessel while refracting light across its surface at varying angles. The scalloped rim provides a deliberate finish at the top of the turning form, standing at 35 cm in height.
Glassblowers discovered early that molten glass — in the brief window between liquid and solid — could be twisted against itself to create a helical structure that is stronger than a straight wall and catches light at angles a plain surface cannot. The technique appeared in Roman workshops in the first century AD and has never been improved upon, only inherited. This piece continues that line: hand-blown, the blue deepening in the folds and lifting where the glass thins, the scalloped rim a considered pause at the top of 35cm of turning form.
