Dizzy Rug - Blue Green, Wool

The Dizzy rug features a motif of small broken lines arranged both horizontally and vertically, growing longer and thinner toward the outer edges in a pattern inspired by a 1947 sketch by Swiss graphic designer Max Huber. Handmade from 100% natural carded wool, it is hand-spun on wooden looms using the Persian knot technique, giving the surface a tactile, handcrafted quality. A saddle leather label stamped with the Poltrona Frau logo is hand-sewn to the reverse, while two fabric strips are attached at the corners to keep them rigid and are embroidered with Max Huber's signature.

In tribute to Max Huber on the hundredth anniversary of his birth, Poltrona Frau has produced a duo of rugs based on drawings of unproduced works sketched by the Swiss artist and graphic designer in 1936 and 1947. 'Dizzy', based on a 1947 sketch, is notable for its application of lines and a distinct rhythm that recalls trailblazing jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie, and is a fitting homage to Huber who is said to have been deeply inspired and influenced by jazz music. Tangibly, the genre manifests here by way of a motif of small broken lines positioned both horizontally and vertically. Becoming longer and thinner as they reach the outer edges of the rug, the strokes call to mind a musical score, hence their different variants and dimensions.
