Billie Rug - White, Wool & Linen

The Billie rug features two bold graphic elements — a circle and a vertical line — occupying nearly the entire surface in a rigorously balanced, constructivist composition on a neutral background. Handmade from 50% wool and 50% linen, it is hand-spun on wooden looms using the Tibetan knot technique, producing a dense, textured pile with precise detail throughout. A saddle leather label, hand-sewn to the reverse and stamped with the Poltrona Frau logo, accompanies two fabric strips embroidered with Max Huber's signature that keep the corners rigid and flat. The rug is based on a 1936 sketch by Swiss graphic designer Max Huber, produced to mark the centenary of his birth.

In tribute to Max Huber on the hundredth anniversary of his birth, Poltrona Frau has produced a duo of rugs based on drawings of unproduced works sketched by the Swiss artist and graphic designer in 1936 and 1947. 'Billie', based on a 1936 sketch, is notable for its application of lines, and a distinct, soulful rhythm that recalls the world famous jazz singer Billie Holliday, and is a fitting homage to Huber who is said to have been deeply inspired and influenced by the genre. Tangibly, it manifests here by way of two bold graphics that take up almost the entire surface of the rug and are highly calibrated in every single detail. Comprising a circle and a vertical line, these two elements introduce a strong formal balance and notable visual impact, while their placement on a neutral background further compounds the rigorous, almost constructivist design.
