Frequently Asked Questions

LED neon is lighter, runs cool, uses far less energy and is much less fragile, which makes it the practical choice for homes. Traditional glass neon gives a richer, more authentic glow, but it is fragile, runs at high voltage and costs more to make and repair. For bedrooms, playrooms and bars at home, LED is the sensible option.

Most LED neon signs use a mains adaptor or a USB cable. Check that it comes with a UK plug and look for a dimmer or remote control, which makes a sign far more versatile. Battery-powered signs suit spots without a nearby socket, though they need regular recharging or replacing.

LED neon runs cool and at low voltage, so it is suitable for children's rooms when used as directed. Mount it out of reach, secure or hide the cable, and choose a sign with a dimmer so it can double as a soft night light. Avoid traditional glass neon in children's rooms.

On a wall where it will be seen but not compete with other lighting, such as above a bar cart, in a games room, a teenager's bedroom or a home office backdrop for video calls. Neon looks best against a plain or dark wall. Keep it away from direct sunlight, which makes the glow look washed out.
