Gio Ponti's 'Superleggera' is one of those rare successful combinations of an architect's personal quest and manufacturing excellence. A Cassina catalogue stalwart since 1957, the 'Superleggera' chair is an homage to traditional artisanal skills and high quality materials, and its complex construction is a testament to the talent of the craftspeople at Cassina's Meda-based workshops. The result is a supremely elegant hand-finished chair with an inherent lightness thanks to an ingenious cross section of legs that allows the seat to weigh just 1.7kg — an impressive feat, especially taking into account the application of ash wood and India cane throughout.
