The Kuwait: A Desert on Fire monograph documents Sebastião Salgado's 1991 photographic series on the torched Kuwaiti oil fields, capturing the human, economic, and environmental catastrophe that followed the Gulf War. Combining historical record with striking large-format photography, the volume presents Salgado's work as both a documentary archive and an artistic portfolio. Its pages chronicle the aftermath of Saddam Hussein's forces igniting the oil fields during the coalition-led withdrawal of Iraqi troops from Kuwait.
