Frequently Asked Questions

About 130 × 170 cm suits most sofas and is large enough to curl up under. Larger throws of 150 × 200 cm cover two people or double as a bed runner. Smaller throws of around 125 × 150 cm work well folded over the arm of an armchair, where they add colour without overwhelming it.

A bedspread covers the whole bed, often reaching the floor or the valance. A quilt is lighter, made of stitched layers, and usually sits on top of the bed rather than to the floor. A throw is smaller and is draped across the foot of the bed or over a sofa for texture and warmth.

Wool and cashmere are the warmest natural fibres and regulate temperature well. Faux fur and fleece are cosy and usually machine washable. Chunky knits look warm but can let air through. Cotton and linen throws are lighter and better suited to summer evenings. Layering a light throw over a duvet adds warmth without heaviness, and is easier to adjust through the night.

Measure the mattress width and length, then add the drop you want on each side: about 30 cm for a bedspread that covers the mattress edge, or more to reach the floor. For a double bed, a bedspread around 230 × 250 cm usually covers well. A deep mattress needs a longer drop.
