The plywood chair combines multiple layers of steam-pressed plywood to create durable back and seat shells with a light, flexible quality. Its organic shape forms naturally to body contours with a gentle recline that provides comfortable seating. The curved plywood base features bent strips that screw together, creating a support frame with natural give and flexibility.
Moulded from multiple layers of thin plywood that is then steam pressed together, the organic shape of these durable back and seat shells has a light and flexible quality. Each piece is formed to the natural contours of the body with a gentle recline that provides an extremely comfortable sit. For the base, curving strips of plywood have been bent to simply screw together forming a support frame and legs that has plenty of give. Alongside models with no upholstery, the Eames's also designed versions with cowhide covers - the beautiful brown and white hide rests on a thin wedge of foam to provide additional padding and support.
