The armchair features hand-crafted cowhide upholstery with its distinctive zip fastening system. Its construction uses 16 individually die-cut leather pieces, each subjected to 14 hand procedures for durability and finish. The steel frame provides structural support, while the zip closure allows the leather skin to fit securely like a tailored garment.
One of the world’s first free-standing cowhide design chairs, Mario Bellini's 'Cab 413' is informed by the relationship between the skeleton and the skin. As such, the signature piece from Cassina’s 'I Contemporanei' collection features upholstery comprised of 16 pieces of brown saddle leather, individually die-cut and then subjected to a further 14 procedures, all by hand. Once attached to the chair’s steel frame, the skin is secured with a zip fastening, akin to a bespoke tailored garment.
