Artful designer wall lamp Poppy with that certain something "Our lighting designs are sensual - and meaningful. And time and again, they also elicit a smile from the observer with a wink of the eye". This is how luminaire designer Georg Soanca-Pollak describes the mission of his work. Together with his business partner Ulrich Beckert, he has already finalised numerous lighting projects and designed lighting objects that are of the highest artistic and technical standard. In collaboration with luminaire designer Peter Thammer, the duo has created the Poppy wall luminaire, which you don't have to look at twice to see that it is the realisation of the mission quoted at the beginning of this article.The sensuality of this lighting object is to be found in its light sources - the heart of every luminaire. In the case of Poppy, these are concealed in two black-violet bodies of hand-blown glass. As if the light shining through the unusually coloured glass and illuminating the glass bodies softly in violet were not enough, this is where another highlight of the luminaire is to be found. In order to realise the look and effect of a flower opening and closing, thin slats made of bimetal were attached to the opening of the glass body. The material, composed of two layers of different metals, reacts to the influence of heat. And so Poppy's petals open sensuously within a few minutes when the luminaire is switched on and the heat of the light source reaches the slats. At the latest now, this wondrous wall lamp elicits a smile from its observer. Meaningful? The luminaire is that all by itself. Because such an effective and, thanks to the two flexible arms, extremely variable accent light as Poppy provides is a welcome highlight in every living space.
