To highlight such elegant lines, each piece is made from a luxurious combination of steel and brass with chrome-plating and a shade finished in a shiny gloss or matt texture.Foreman of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar, one of the first and most influential design schools of the 20th Century, silversmith and designer Christian Dell oversaw a number of innovative early designs that emerged from the fledgling institution.Released in 1936, his Idell Luxus table lamp was produced by German lighting manufacturers Gebr. Kaiser & Co and soon became a best-seller.To ensure that this lineage continues, Danish manufacturers Fritz Hansen have kept the lamps original title, 'Idell' standing for the designers name while 'Kaiser' refers to the original manufacturer.
