The faux tortoiseshell placemats feature a multi-layered lacquer finish applied in 20 coats, each hand-polished between applications to produce a smooth, durable surface. The underside of each mat is lined with cream velvet to protect table surfaces from scratching. The set includes four placemats suited to warm plates, though not suitable for very hot cookware straight from the oven, and should be kept away from prolonged direct sunlight.
