What a cookie actually is
A cookie is a small file a website leaves on your device so it can recognise you next time. Almost every site uses them — some to work at all, others to count visitors or to follow what you do afterwards.
This page tells you which ones we use, what each one is for, and how to turn off anything you would rather not have.
Why we use them
A handful keep the site working: staying signed in, holding your region and currency, keeping saved pieces attached to your account. Without those, nothing on the site remembers you.
The rest tell us how the site is being used — which pages people reach, where they give up, what they search for and do not find. That is how we decide what to fix. You can refuse all of it and the site will work exactly as it does now.
Referral cookies, and why they matter here
When you click through to a retailer, a cookie records that we sent you. If you go on to buy something, that record is how the retailer knows to pay us a commission — it is how this site is funded, and it costs you nothing.
These cookies are set by the retailer or their affiliate network, not by us, and they follow that network's own policy. They do not change the price you pay, and they never change where a product ranks on our pages.
The cookies we use
Four groups, in plain terms:
- Essential — sign-in, security, region and currency. These cannot be switched off, because the site cannot work without them.
- Functional — remembering your saved pieces, boards and preferences between visits.
- Analytics — how many people visit, which pages they use, where things go wrong. Aggregated, never used to identify you.
- Referral — recording that we sent you to a retailer, so any commission is credited correctly.
Choosing what you allow
Nothing beyond the essential cookies runs until you say yes. When you first arrive you can accept everything, refuse everything, or go through the categories one at a time.
Your browser gives you another layer of control: every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and their help pages explain how. Blocking everything will break sign-in and saved lists on most sites, including this one.
Changing your mind
Your first answer is not binding. Open cookie settings from the link in the footer, change what you allow, and save — turning something off stops it from that moment.
Clearing your browser's cookies also clears the record of what you chose, so we will ask again on your next visit. That is the cookie rules working as intended, not a fault.
If you are unhappy
Email partners@shophomestyles.com and we will look into it.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. You can go to them directly and you do not have to come to us first.
When this page changes
We update this page whenever the cookies we use change, or when the law does. The version here is always the current one, and the date at the top tells you when we last touched it.
If a change means we need your consent again, we will ask rather than assume.
