This pretty piece is a collaboration between two of our favorite makers — the legendary ceramicist Astier de Villatte and celebrated designer John Derian — and takes its inspiration from classic Dutch delftware. A type of tin-glazed pottery made in the Netherlands since the 16th century, delftware’s iconic blue-and-white color palette and elegant designs were in turn derived from the blue and white palette and elegant designs found on traditional Chinese pottery. Talk about art inspiring art! Handcrafted in Astier’s Paris workshop using locally-sourced black terracotta clay and dipped in the brand’s signature milky white glaze, this shallow bowl is finished with delicate hand-painted florals and a charming heron from Derian's expansive collection of antique images, creating a dead ringer for authentic delftware.
