The Superleggera chair offers architectural design excellence with its hand-finished construction and traditional artisanal craftsmanship. Its ingenious cross-section leg design provides remarkable lightness, weighing just 1.7kg while featuring durable ash wood and India cane materials. The complex construction demonstrates superior craftsmanship while delivering both structural integrity and refined comfort.
Gio Ponti's 'Superleggera' is one of those rare successful combinations of an architect's personal quest and manufacturing excellence. A Cassina catalogue stalwart since 1957, the 'Superleggera' chair is an homage to traditional artisanal skills and high quality materials, and its complex construction is a testament to the talent of the craftspeople at Cassina's Meda-based workshops. The result is a supremely elegant hand-finished chair with an inherent lightness thanks to an ingenious cross section of legs that allows the seat to weigh just 1.7kg — an impressive feat, especially taking into account the application of ash wood and India cane throughout.
