The Charred Vase celebrates the Portuguese art of 'barro preto' with its distinctive non-homogeneous texture of black, grey and earth tones. Handcrafted by João Lourenço using traditional techniques, each piece is buried and fired in an underground pit called a 'soenga' to achieve its dark matte finish. The abstract design presents a spherical component atop a bowl-shaped base, while the unique firing process creates a texture that tells the story of production through touch alone.
