This stunning dish began as a lump of locally-sourced clay, which a skilled artisan hand-formed into a simple, no-frills shape on a potter’s wheel. From there, it was coated with a creamy white glaze and hand-painted with traditional designs in a fresh green hue, inspired by the details found on an authentic piece of 18th-century Transylvanian pottery. Finally, the entire piece, natural clay exterior and all, was then covered with a smooth, glossy glaze, creating a one-of-a-kind finished product that’s as practical as it is pretty.
