Compare TV Stands & Media Consoles: Oak, Rattan & Low

Choose a stand a few inches wider than the TV on each side so the screen doesn't look top-heavy. A 55-inch TV is about 48 inches wide, so look at stands of 55 inches or more; a 65-inch TV, at about 57 inches wide, suits stands of 63 inches and up. Confirm the TV's feet fit the stand's depth as well.

Ventilation through open shelves or vented doors, a rear cable port, and shelves at least 14–16 inches deep for larger consoles. Glass, cane or mesh doors hide clutter without blocking remote signals. Check the interior shelf height too, since some consoles stand upright, and plan where the power strip will sit so cords don't trail across the floor.

Yes, particularly with young children at home. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends anchoring both TVs and furniture to prevent tip-overs. Use the included anti-tip kit, fix it into a stud or with anchors rated for your wall, and confirm the stand's weight capacity before placing the TV. Check the anchor again whenever you move or replace the TV.

Floating consoles look clean, free up floor space and suit smaller rooms, but they need studs or heavy-duty anchors and some planning for cables, ideally an in-wall cord kit. Freestanding stands are simpler to install, easy to move and better suited to renters or anyone who likes to rearrange the room from season to season.

Yes, and in some rooms it frees the longest wall for the couch. Corner stands are angled to fit the space, while a standard stand can sit diagonally if the room allows. Make sure the viewing angle works from the main seats and that the corner isn't across from a window that will cause glare.
