The Pao Portable table lamp is part of the Pao lamp collection designed by Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa for HAY. Named after the soft shape of traditional Mongolian Pao tents, Pao borrows from Fukasawa's aesthetic of beautiful simplicity. Thus, he created an everyday object that draws on design values found in nature. By keeping the aesthetic sleek and simple, he brings the design into harmony with its surroundings. Both the base and the shade of the table lamp are made of a durable polycarbonate with a smooth, high-gloss finish. The light source of the lamp is hidden inside the shade behind an opal polycarbonate diffuser, creating an efficient, diffused light downwards with a warm, cozy glow. Thanks to battery operation, the compact luminaire can be used as an atmospheric light source in a variety of places around the house, in the garden or on the patio. In the base of the lamp sits a switch, via which the light can be switched to different brightness levels.
Naoto Fukasawa founded his own company Naoto Fukasawa Design in 2003. His designs are known for Fukasawa's ability to access and communicate the true essence of an object
